Two weeks ago, I did something so spontaneous and out of the blue, something I really would have never expected myself to do, I got eyelash extensions! Now usually I am not one to go out of my way and alter my physical attributions, but for quite some time I wanted to do something different about my appearance. Eyelash extensions were the first thing that came to my mind because it's a such a subtle change yet quite noticiable. Lately, I have recieved a myriad of sweet compliments and questions about my eyelash extensions, so I thought I would write a piece on my blog telling you everything you need to know before investing in some pretty lash extensions! Lastly, if you live in the southern California area and are looking into getting eyelash extensions, check out Details Salon Total Body Spa located in Imperial, California and ask for lash esthetician Raven Sanchez, and tell her Kylee sent you! She did my eyelash extensions in the photo above, and I would not have wanted anyone other than her working on my lashes! :)
1. What are lash extensions?
Lash extensions are the application of single lashes that are individually adhered to your natural lash line, which will prevent them from sticking together. The lashes come in a variety of forms, such as mink, synthetic, or silk hair. Lash extensions are used to enchance the natural length and thickness of your real eyelashes. There are two styles for lash extensions: a classic or volume set. The classic set gives a more intricate and detailed appearance of eyelashes, whereas a volume set gives you a much more voluminous and lengthy appearance.
2. How long is the application?
For you initial set, the session lasts approximately two hours, whereas a fill should last from fifty minutes to an hour.
3. Does the application or extensions in general, hurt?
The application is actually quite relaxing for the most part, due to the fact that you must lay down with your eyes closed for the entire session. As for eyelashes in general, they should NOT itch or irritate your eyes.
4. How long do they last?
A set of eyelash extensions should last for three to four weeks. If you are content with your eyelash extensions, you can simply go back for a fill, which is less time-consuming and less expensive as well.
5. How much do they cost?
Lash extensions can range from $20-$250 dollars. As tempting as it sounds to pay a small fee of only $20 dollars, you really shouldn't! These are eyelashes we are speaking about, and they are crucial in the sense that they shield your eyelids from the bright sun as well as harmful particles such as sand or dust. My inital set of lash extensions were solely $140 without the serum or cleanser, which altogether cost me $279. Although your inital set is quite pricey, a fill should cost you about $50 or $60 dollars.
6. What are the restrictions that come along with eyelash extensions?
- Do not swim in salt water (pool or ocean)
-Avoid strong heat such as opening ovens
- Do not get them wet the first 24 hours
- Avoid oil-based makeup removers as well as waterproof mascaras
- Do not use an eyelash curler before or after your application.
-Do not rub or pull your eyelashes
7. Would you recommend them?
I have had my lash extensions for about three weeks and I have been LOVING them! Lash extensions are great because they shorten your makeup routine and also happen to look great with a makeup-free, fresh face. I would recommend them to anyone who wears subtle makeup or is a girl on the go. Yes they are a bit expensive and require maintenance, but if they make you feel good, then you should definitely treat yourself! Sometimes you may ask yourself, "Am I worth it?', and I am here to tell you that yes, you are worth it! Xo, Kylee
