I have yet to share this information on my blog, but here it goes! I am currently enrolled in the Parsons x Teen Vogue Fashion Industry Essentials Program and I have been absolutely loving it! For those of you who didn't know, I genuinely love fashion and especially writing about it too! I decided to enroll myself in this program in order to learn from the best of the best such as top designers like Rebecca Minkoff, Teen Vogue editors like Elaine Welteroth and Andrew Bevan, as well as even faculty from The New School (Parsons University). This non-credit certificate program includes over 42 hours of online videos discussing significant aspects of the fashion industry and all that it entails. One of the many benefits of this program is the fact that you have a whole year to complete the program and can complete it on your own schedule. This week, I completed the first course out of all five courses. This course was so intriguing to me because it went in-depth with fashion trends throughout the ages as well as its significance and background. The assignments in this course entailed taking your own spin on these iconic trends and featuring them in the outfits you paired. I have never really done a blogger-esque fashion piece on this blog, except write about fashion itself. I thought for once I should do one of those stereotypical fashion blogger pieces, so I figured I'd ought to show you the outfits I paired for this course. Please keep in mind that I worked with what I could find in my closet and styled them the best I could. I firmly believe that fashion in itself, is a universal language that everyone speaks in their own true dialect. Lastly, I am definitely no model and am even farther from looking or even posing like one. I was a bit hesitant about posting these photos online for everyone can see, because deep down, I am not all that confident with my appearance. However, here online, I try to promote self-love and confidence and not posting these pictures for those reasons would only make me a hypocrite. Also, a big thanks to my younger sister, Ellie, who helped me take these photos! Without further a due, here are the outfits I paired for the first course!
1. The White Dress
The first trend I attempted to pull off was the white dress. Here, I wore a simple white dress with lace detailing at the bottom from The Kendall and Kylie Collection alongside a small handbag that was gifted to me from a dear friend!
2. Sportswear
2. Sportswear
Okay so obviously, this isn't sportswear. The main objective of this assignment was to take certain pieces that are inspired by sportswear and make the outfit your own. The central aspect of this outfit was my multi-colored windbreaker from Brandy Melville alongside a basic pair of dark rinse jeans with a pair of white platform sneakers from Steve Madden.
3. The Working Woman
3. The Working Woman
You're probably thinking "Who the hell wears a hat to work?", but then again who the hell says you can't? I decided to incorporate a floppy hat just for the fun of it and I am so glad I did! Wearing this hat made me feel a bit like Holly Golightly from Breakfast at Tiffany's (A.K.A, my favorite film of all time) in that one scene where she dons an over-sized hat and asks Paul Varjack, "How do I look?"; I'll insert a GIF here:
While the floppy hat is actually my mother's, I decided to break out some of my old mock trial clothes for this outfit, which actually didn't last long, if you're wondering. The shirt and embellished skirt are from Dillards. Lastly, I finished the look with a simple pair of black heels that I can BARELY walk in.
4. French Stripes
4. French Stripes
Believe it or not, a majority of my wardrobe is made up of a myriad of striped tees. However I decided to keep it pretty-laid back with a black and white striped romper from Gypsy Warrior, alongside my mother's hat, and my Steve Madden white platform sneakers.
