One subject that I felt the need to discuss is the whole idea behind the typical saying, "New Year, New Me." I genuinely believe that each and every one of us has our own individual weaknesses and strengths. The whole "New Year, New Me" quote is almost implying that just because we are ringing in a new year, we must suddenly reinvent ourselves in all aspects, the bad and the good. Rather than reinventing yourself as a whole, don't. Strive to be a better person and make goals that will allow you to move on forward with your life for the better.
In life, we all rise at times, but then maybe one day, we may find ourselves falling, and that's okay. But what's not okay? Falling and not getting back up. Really, it is a part of human nature to fail. While it may be possible to avoid failing in the first place, sometimes you just do, and really, you just got to try again. The idea that you can only start with a clean slate on the first day of the year is as ridiculous as it sounds. You can change yourself for the better any day out of the year, despite what society may say.
As for resolutions, it is a good thing to have some! I never really had any resolutions for years, but this year that needed to change. Rather than going for some quintessential resolutions like losing weight or finding a boyfriend, my resolution is simply to be happy. While that may seem like a doltish resolution to most, it's really not! I am now choosing to see the good in all situations, good and bad. This year, I learned the concept of mind over matter, in which one uses their overall mind to control the rest of their physical being as well as their perspective of a certain situation.
While resolutions may seem overwhelming and almost impossible to achieve, they're not. The trick is to take one day at a time and to keep on evolving with not only your resolution but as a whole. For example, yesterday I deleted my incredibly sad, and really, detrimental Spotify playlist and made a happy one, and what did I do? I put on a face mask and just danced around my room and jumped on my bed like a child, and let me tell you, it felt really great, probably the greatest I have felt in a while.
In the end, we have entered another year and while some may look at that in a negative aspect, thinking we are another year closer to death, I am choosing to look at that in a radiant light, another year of life, so let's make this one count.
Thank you for reading and have a great day!
X, K.B.
